I just updated my firehose and this is me testing

So put those three items together and Mastodon will be niche, Twitter will be … whatever the heck is going on over there, and Threads will some some uptake. Easy, right? Well…

Threads is using ActivityPub, I believe. That’s what Mastodon uses. So Threads+Mastodon will be big. But let’s be clear, mostly just Threads.

And then there’s Bluesky. 2/

Threads vs Twitter vs Mastodon. I think lots of people are weighed down by baggage as this story develops.

First, people are concerned about Meta. Ok. Do you use Instagram? Then whatever, get over it.

Next, people like Twitter, or at least the idea of it. But it’s clear the direction of the company is towards more dysfunction, not less. This is not just an opinion, it would be hard to dispute it with objective data.

Third, Mastodon is hard as heck. 1/

It’s fun learning new things. But it’s really satisfying completing a project. Sometimes you need to choose between the two.

Update: I got the thing working! Huzzah!

Back in 2006 or so, I ran a little microblogging thing. I've brought it back with a 2023 flair and it's working great. But now I'm trying to get RSS feeds batching things in digest, so instead of seeing every tiny post you can get a weekly digest of what your friends are up to. I am so close to getting it working. Wish me luck!

It's hard to quantify how much better I am as a developer with chatGPT.

I keep shipping things that never would have happened without it. So it's like asking how much better a tricycle is at getting to the moon before and after adding a rocket to it. Am I twice as good? 100x? It doesn't matter. It's the difference between doing the thing and not doing the thing.
